Tanner's Brown

No. 255

* Samples available in Estate Emulsion only. Colours on screen may vary from actual paint.

Tanner's Brown, the darkest of our drabs, will read as almost black in low light and is extremely useful to create a softer look than black when used on the interior of fireplaces. It does however become more brown, due to its warm red tones, in well lit spaces and exteriors. Dark Tones Undercoat.

Beautiful Colour and great finish! Tanners brown is a fantastic, sophisticated colour. I have used this in my bedroom (risky I know) together with Opal Blue and Dead Salmon furniture together with Joa's white ceiling and floor The only comment I would make is that the finishing colour is more charcoal grey with a hint of brown. All in all very pleased with the finished result! 23 February 2015
Lovely colour Previous reviewers suggested colour difference between paint and sample, I did not find this It was exactly the colour I wanted 24 November 2014
Stunning and elegant I love this colour - it's like bitter dark chocolate and really brings my paintings alive! 08 October 2014
Finished Colour not as expected I bought this colour to match as closely as possible to my existing external paintwork, which is a very dark brown. I compared the colour chart to this and it was very close. The decider was the description which said almost black. Perfect, except having applied the recommended F&B dark tones undercoat and two coats of the Tanners Brown the finished result was no where near what was expected. In fact it looked like a dark plum colour. I phoned F&B who asked that I return the paint for testing. Alas, they said this was within tolerance. I am extremely disappointed and needless to say having wasted over £100 on two tins of paint (undercoat and topcoat) I shall not be buying any external F&B paint in the future. 26 June 2014
Great color saturation and tone Great color saturation and rich, full tone - in certain lighting conditions has a slight dark purple underlying sheen. Painter mentioned that the paint coat dried extremely fast - which in some cases (painting doors etc.) can be challenging and requires good skills to apply a smooth, even coat. All in all great product 15 May 2014
An interesting dark grey/brown I have painted bookcases and a console table in this colour. It is an interesting, very dark grey with a slight hint of brown and purple. It looks great with the Cornforth White walls. More grey than it appears on the colour chart. 07 December 2013
Looks lovely but not very brown We were having real difficulty finding floor paints that weren't either black, red or white until we discovered that F&B do their whole range as floor paints. Bought a tester of this and the mahogany for our wooden floors, the mahogany was far too brown so we choose this one which comes out more of purplish/charcoal grey - nothing like the colour block in the shop but it looks fantastic and was really easy to apply. Would definitely recommend but try the testers first! 27 August 2013
Lovely finish, but colour not as expected We saw a sample block in this colour at a Farrow and Ball supplier, and bought a sample pot which we tested in the location where the main coats were to be applied. The colour was a dark, rich brown as described above, however, when we bought a large tin and applied it, the resulting colour is more of a blueish/purpleish shade, and doesn't complement the other colours in the room so well. The undercoat we used was that suggested by Farrow and Ball. Otherwise, the dead flat finish we chose is really lovely for our woodwork- such a shame about the colour itself. 02 March 2013
