String

String’s colour is reminiscent of the untreated twine used by gardeners and parcel senders worldwide. It is a pale earth pigment based colour with an underlying green, which makes it a Farrow & Ball classic. It is particularly good for connecting rooms with the outside, so is often used in conservatories. For a really relaxed feel, contrast it with the very slightly lighter Matchstick. Mid Tones Undercoat.

Brilliant This is the latest colour I've used from the farrow and ball library. String is calming, serene, clean and just transforms a space. Love it and I think can be used anywhere in the house. 24 November 2014
Gorgeous warm colour When the first coat went on I was worried it was too deep in colour but now finalised it is a lovely earthy colour (not really what I would classify as off-white as it has a fairly strong result) which contrasts beautifully with the woodwork which we've painted in a simple brilliant white. Excellent coverage. A warm, neutral and very chic colour that is easy to match with pretty much any soft furnishings. We've put it on the walls of our teenage daughter's bedroom with the intention that it lasts into her adult years. It is a sunny, south facing room - the colour does change with the light level but consistently retains a warm feel. 15 October 2014
A classy colour with green tones depending on the light We first used this colour in a small porch with Pointing for the woodwork. The effect was quite stunning such that we decided to use the same colours in an internal corridor. We also used the String eggshell to paint our cupboards in the corridor and there was no different in the colour. We're extremely pleased with the result. 20 July 2014

AMAZING QUALITY ! Do be aware that this colour has a green pigment ,especially in a north facing room .Wasn't obviously greenish with the sample pot .The quality is amazing ,no splattering and very thick . Not really the colour i was aiming for so will have to repaint at more cost .I do find it really difficult trusting the colour charts as not true to paint colours .It is costly when paying for sample pots on top of paint itself . You need to work quite quickly as the pain drys fast . 25 March 2014
This product has great depth of colour and is very warm We live in a victorian house and have used farrow and ball paint to decorate 80 percent of our home. The key to success being the colour options and the complimentary colour recommendations provided on the website. I have always followed the recommendation even when I was unsure based on the sample and it has turned out to be fantastic in every case. I purchased farrow and ball wallpaper in a shade of red and string was recommended as a complimentary colour (we used it in easterly facing lounge. It is beautiful. We have received loads of compliments from visitors saying how warm the colour is and asking for details of the colour and manufacturer. It was such a success that we have just decorated our entire hallway in string and once again I'm delighted with the result. The hallway doesn't get a lot of natural light and I was worried it would be too dark. It isn't - it's lovely and warm and bright. Our decorator says it isn't the easiest paint to use but it is excellent quality. I highly recommend farrow and ball and this paint. 24 January 2014
Good for cosy look in a small space or airy look in a bigger room Lovely sophisticated chalky colour I think it would work best in a lounge giving a neutral background I tried out the tester for my hallway, but decided it was a little too dark for this space. That is however just a personal choice as I wanted a different look. It is a lovely chalky darkish string colour - beautiful and an excellent quality too 06 August 2013
String has great warmth and richness String is a great colour - always choose delicate shades from Farrow and Ball but this time I wanted something with a litte more colour depth. I wasn't disappointed. It has a changing face depending on the time of day and the natural light levels entering the room. I always chooase estate emulsion but this time I chose modern emulsion because I have a hard work Hallway which scuffs easily. The coverage of the emulsion was superb and the finish is smooth and silky to look at and touch. My description of this colour is sand/green/offwhite it works well with my carpet which is the colour of underlay and the woodwork is strong white. Fab! 18 March 2013
