Beautiful colour but abysmal coverage I used both the Estate Emulsion & Eggshell. A fabulous colour, deep and warm and a great match with Mole's Breath. F&B have the best colours, for me, and I have used them several times, but I am getting increasingly frustrated by the poor performance that I have experienced. This time it needed 3 coats of emulsion (4 coats at edges) to cover even a white anaglypta paper. The woodwork soaked up 2 coats of undercoat and a further 3 coats of eggshell. My decorator now charges me 30% more when I tell him that I want to use F&B paints! He tells me that F&B have to recommend an undercoat even for emulsion because the paints have very poor coverage. At £63 for a 5L tin this has gone beyond what can be justified for me. With regret, this is the last time I will use F&B paints. November 2, 2014
High quality product. This product, as with a previous purchase, provided us with a high quality product which is worth every penny. The only problem is that it shows up the poor quality of other paints, so having used it once we are now redecorating the rest of the house with Farrow and Ball. October 10, 2014
old school decorator thank you for giving me this opportunity to review water based eggshell, I'am really trying to come to terms with this product, but it still lacks something for me, brush marks don't flow out, drying edge is hard to maintain causing over layering and rubbing up the drying edge giving shabby finish, I have the same feelings about your gloss which isn't glossy enough for a classy front door, and I just can't recommend it to my customers. estate emulsion gives a nice finish and is good to use, but I feel that undercoat for emulsion is a bit of a con, absolutely not needed October 7, 2014
nice finish Always a great finish but quite often a battle to get there ! October 2, 2014
Water Based Paint I went to great lengths to purchase this paint for my home office. I wanted an eggshell sheen and a durable finish to paint a large l-shaped desk top that I made myself. None of my local shops stocked this colour in eggshell finish, so I ordered online and had to pay postage. I was very disappointed when it came to find that it was water based and not oil based, which I have not experienced before with F&B. Since I had already primed and undercoated the desk in several layers of high quality oil based paint, the paint was no good for my application so it sits unused in the shed. Because of the amount of time that had elapsed, I went out same day to buy a colour-matched equivalent elsewhere. Really disappointing, because I love F&B paint. September 25, 2014
Splendid Lovely low odour paint in a beautiful soft neutral grey colour. Recommended. September 16, 2014
Customers like the colours but quality is lacking I'm a decorator of 14 years experience, and am often asked to use Farrow and Ball colours - my customers love them! The very soft matt finish also gives the colours good depth. However I find that they are lacking in coverage and take at least 3 coats to cover even a moderate colour or even tonal change. This takes extra time and paint - making the jobs more time consuming and expensive than they need to be. I use quality brushes and rollers and do not have this problem with other mainstream paint ranges. I am aware that F&B recommend primers under their emulsions, but at £63 for 5l I think they should be able to stand on their own two feet! Again, I am not aware of other brands who say this is necessary unless you are making an extreme colour change. September 2, 2014
lovely warm grey Goes on like cream, looks great in my Lounge as a feature wall. Other 3 walls are in Slipper satin. The grey is a lovely warm colour. August 4, 2014

A stronger neutral which resembles the stone found in the Isle of Purbeck. Works perfectly with Ammonite™ and Cornforth White.
