Matchstick is deservedly a Farrow & Ball staple as it is extremely versatile. With its tiny addition of black it is a wall colour which creates delightfully understated rooms which are warm but definitely not creamy. In well lit rooms it has a fresher quality, especially when contrasted with White Tie, where-as in darker or north facing rooms it appears more relaxed and traditional. White & Light Tones Undercoat.

An easy paint to ensure a good finish with A pleasing and subtle colour with the ability to work with a variety of other colour 19 April 2015
Perfect in hall, stairs and landing At last, after endless try-outs with a million tester pots, I eventually chose this colour, recommended by my decorator, for the hall, stairs and landing in my Victorian end-terrace London home. I'd wanted something that would be a distinctive colour, but not dark (and potentially dreary) where there's not much natural light, yet not so pale as to be insipid. Matchstick is a dream - it's a sort of biscuit colour, with an uplifting yet calming feel. It stands out well against white woodwork and ceiling, doesn't overpower, yet doesn't look at all like 'just another off-white/cream'. Love it to pieces and wholeheartedly recommend it to people going through the agonies of what wall colour to choose in a difficult space. 08 March 2015
Good finish but poor coverage Any normal wall or ceiling should only need two coats for a great finish. After two coats with this it still looks patchy in places, so needed a 3rd! Great finish just poor coverage compared to other products. 22 January 2015

This is an amazing product This is the very first time I have purchased Farrow and Ball paint, and though it was expensive it was worth every penny. Superb paint!!!!! 24 November 2014
Warm effects in a small cottage. We used Matchstick on the walls of the upstairs rooms and the living room in our small stone cottage which doesn't have a lot of natural light. It gives a very warm effect and the colour changes from quite pale yellowy - cream to a more ochre colour depending on the weather and light outside. I had heard that using the casein distemper was difficult to apply but I had no problem using it with a roller over newly applied lime plaster. We used Pointing for the woodwork which is not as stark as a white would be and has a faint creamy appearance. 30 August 2014
