  Our Environment

We do as much as we can to help protect the environment we live in - it’s something we value and something we live by. Although we know we’re not perfect – the more we do, the better we get. From the creation of our water based paints and wallpapers printed onto paper sourced from FSC® accredited suppliers, to raw materials, energy use, packaging and distribution, we are motivated by a desire to care for our environment.

  Water Based Paints

Our water based paints contain low or minimal VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). In paints VOCs tend to be solvents such as white spirit, which evaporate as paint dries, releasing pollutants into the environment. A water based paint is kinder for the environment, and its low odour is great for your home environment too.

  Our Progress

Everyone at Farrow & Ball is committed to Reducing, Reusing and Recycling – here’s how:

ECO FRIENDLY PRODUCTION - There are no solvents or emissions in the manufacture of our paints and papers.

EASY TO CLEAN - As our paints are water based, brushes and rollers can be washed out with warm soapy water after use - eliminating the need to use any polluting white spirit solutions.

CHILD SAFE - Our paints have been independently tested and approved to meet the Toy Safety Standard* so parents can rest assured when decorating their children’s nurseries and bedrooms or painting children’s accessories, toys or cots.

PAPER SOURCING - Our wallpapers are created using our eco friendly water based paints and paper sourced only from FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) accredited paper suppliers.

REDUCING WASTE - Currently 90% of the waste we create producing our paints and papers is recyclable (including paint tins, paper, and packaging), reducing the need to landfill – our aim is for continuous improvement.

RECYCLED MATERIALS - Our packaging balances the need for sturdy boxes to safely deliver our products with our desire to protect the environment. 50% of our packaging uses recycled materials, and we use FSC® accredited paper suppliers to produce our brochures and leaflets.

RECOGNITION - All of the work carried out in our paint and wallpaper factories, showrooms and offices, has been recognised by the ISO14001:2004 environmental management system certification. Since 2005 our pass rate has been 100%, and we remain committed to continuous improvement.

*All Farrow & Ball finishes (with the exception of Limewash, Casein Distemper and Soft Distemper, which are specialist finishes) have been tested to and meet the requirements of BS EN 71 part 3 - Safety of toys - Migration of certain elements (The Toy Safety Standard).
