Charleston Gray

No. 243

Charleston Gray 4.6 5 12 12
Beautiful in every way Just 2.5 l covered my bedroom, bathroom and hall, due to its excellent coverage. No nasty VOC stench, fast drying, and the most wonderful paint I have ever used. Am now a firm convert to Farrow&Ball paints, and also use them in my art and crafts work. This sophisticated colour is warm and soothing, and tied my rather eclectic furnishings together beautifully. Absolutely Stunning This is the first time I have used the exterior eggshell and I am very impressed. Firstly, the quality is like no other. It is a pleasure to paint with. Secondly, a little goes a long way, so I am now looking around for more to paint. Thirdly, the colour is beautiful. I was a little worried as I didn't want brown, but this paint has such a deep pigment it changes shade and hue, and is striking on the exterior. I will never use any other paint! July 2, 2014
External paint This paint applied beautifully to wooden external surfaces. The colour is fantastic and on most surfaces the final results are amazing, I just wish I had ordered the larger tub as the coverage was slightly less than I has expected / budgeted for and really I will need to buy another tin to second coat. Wonderful and unusual colour. This is a new colour for me and I love it! I have teamed it with clunch and the five stripe wallpaper and my hall looks superb. (Obviously you can tell I am a fan of F&B). March 28, 2014
Lovely paint but not really a grey We bought this paint just using the paint chart and not looking at this site or the reviews. It is more of a pinky brown colour than grey which wasn't what we wanted but the quality of the paint was very good and went on easily with a roller. February 26, 2014
review based on colour This is not what I expected since I wanted warm greys (was advised by B&B to team with Elephants breath or skimming stone). Unfortunately this turned out an unusual pinky purple colour which did not complement my painted black furniture. However, the ease of use and paint quality was excellent though I suspect two or three coats of the darker colours is required. January 14, 2014
Love Farrow & Ball paint So far I've painted half the rooms in our house with Farrow & Ball, always with wonderful results. Last week I painted a large bedroom with Charleston Gray estate emulsion. It easily covered in two coats, and the walls are plaster with quite a bit of texture. Results in this north facing bedroom: beautiful, serene, relaxing. August 8, 2013
A sophisticated colour that lends itself to many rooms After thinking long and hard about how dark we could possibly paint our lounge walls without feeling like we are permanently sitting in a cave, we finally settled on Charleston Grey. When the first coat went on, the colour was a lot more "chocolatey-brown" then I had hoped for, having imagined a much more grey-brown tone. However, two coats and four whole lounge walls later, I am glad we stuck to it. As I'm sure you read many times before, the pigment in the paint changes with light and we get anything from "cool chocolate" (evening & dull days) to "greyish brown" on sunny days in a long room that faces east & west with large windows on both sides. It's very cosy and yet sophisticated. The two attached photographs paint a pretty accurate picture of the colour we see when we look at the room. We decided to break up the very long walls by painting the recesses in Skimming Stone, which is a lovely colour match. This required three thick coats of paint to cover a previously white wall, though. The Charleston Grey paint does require either three coats or one coat of undercoat and two coats of paint. Both works equally well. However, we found a little paint went a long way. And the Estate Emulsion we used is so forgiving when applied that you won't see a single brush stroke once it's dry, no matter how hard you try (and try I did!). We are absolutely thrilled with the results. So much so, that we painted the pantry Charleston Grey with the leftovers (hey, it's expensive paint!). See pictures. April 29, 2013
